Hi, my name is Lewis. I make websites and iPhone apps as I travel the world. I also run Digital Nomad Weekly a mailing list with the weeks best articles for Digital Nomads.
People often ask how I combine work and travel, so here goes: I’m a digital nomad. That means I can work on my business from anywhere as long as there’s an internet connection.
Most of my livelihood is freelance web development for companies I’ve previously worked for in the UK. I help out when they’re busy, and they’re happy for me to work offsite. It’s pretty cool : )
At the moment, the money I make from apps supplements my freelance work. My aim is to turn that around and make app earnings my main source of income.
Why do we travel? Because we can. It keeps us fresh and excited and it’s a great privilege to be able to.
The ‘we’, by the way, is me and my wife Jen. Our 2012 ‘flashpacker’ honeymoon in Thailand was the catalyst for where we are now. As soon as we got home we knew we wanted to change how we live.
Within 6 months we’d sold all our stuff, rented our house and bought round the world tickets. The plan was to travel for 9 months. In the end, it took us 2 years to finish that trip.
We don’t travel fast – we spend three to six months in the places we visit. We get an apartment, try to blend in, maybe go to a co-working space. Jen calls it living ‘mini-lives’.
The work is hard and sometimes stressful building, but we get an instant vacation on our days off.
So that’s me, and this is my blog — I write about building an App Store business and being a digital nomad.
You can take a look at my projects on the Apps page, or if you want to be in touch to ask questions or just say hi, I’d really (and sincerely) love to hear from you.
Thanks so much for reading.
